During such an international event people tend to focus less on their life difficulties. National spirit unite people and this cohesion tends to decrease suicidal thoughts.
However there is risk of emotionally isolated people to become further left out.
Females at home are more tolerant to the men's behaviour.
Alcohol intake is increased leading to disinhibited behaviour and withdrawl symptoms.

When national team cannot get through there is tendency to repress painful feelings and get back to day to day life in most of people. However in a small number of people feeling of frustration and anger can be displaced to others unconciously. Some others ruminate on old good days when national team was successful. There is a natural feeling of helplessness and already depressed patients interpret teams loss to their loss and feel further depressed.
